Seeing Different Things

Check out this cool photo, it’s some african animal. I don't know what it’s called, but the reason I’ve put it there is because it is interesting that when you see this photo you immediately know that there is an animal in there.

Ok, that probably sounds stupid, but I don’t think the difference in appearance between organic and inorganic things is all that much, but due to evolution or whatever humans (and other animals) have developed the ability to differentiate these things flawlessly.

You often do see things that you don’t quite understand, but due to your general understanding of things you are almost always able to understand what type of thing it is. I’ve actually seen videos online of birds being able to say and differentiate different materials by name, giving the idea that this isn’t a human only trait.

Check this out though, I’m sure all of you have seen a camouflage animal (this one is sick) but these certain animals have literally evolved to LOOK INORGANIC, which is so interesting to me.

One time I was walking on a trail looking for various rocks on the ground and I thought I saw something shiny and cool, so I reached down to grab it and it was some sort of organic matter and it was just disgusting and sticky and I was so upset that I touched it and I had to walk the whole way home without washing my hands. God. It wasn't even camouflage, but I have no idea what that gross thing was. Maybe I’m less evolved.

I think you’ve just got to be grateful for the ability to perceive all these things in the way that you do, because if we were unable to differentiate things and only used sight for movement and not for interacting with the world we wouldn’t really be able to appreciate so many little things. Like rocks and small creatures.

This is a rock hyrax, it’s a small creature that likes to live in and around rock crevices. They live in Africa and the Middle east and this guy can without a doubt tell if something is a rock because it’s literally his house.

I could live on a rock.
