Clay Pigeons

Fender Tim Armstrong Hellcat Guitar

Unfortunately for today I cannot add many pictures because the blog is about the song that I am learning on guitar right now, so here’s a picture of my guitar. This is actually the one that I’m learning it on.

The song is titled “Clay Pigeons” and it is a traditional folk song written by Blaze Foley, a Texan Singer-Songwriter who passed away at only 39 years old in 1989. The song was later covered by an artist named John Prine, who I am not quite sure who he is, but also the famous actor Micheal Cera (where I found it), giving this tune a lot more attention than it would have received otherwise.

I’m pretty sure the song is technically about starting fresh and leaving town or whatever, but I just like it because it has this whimsy to it. I’m not sure if he or Micheal Cera said it originally, but the line “Find a big fat lady with two or three kids and sit down by her side” is just funny yet real as hell. I dunno, I just love that line.

The song also uses fingerpicking, which is a sound that I love, notably used on songs like Landslide and Never going back again by Fleetwood Mac, as well as Don’t Think Twice it’s Alright by Bob Dylan, and many, many others. Instead of strumming the guitar, you pick the individual strings in succession making it almost piano-like.

I just really like the song, and I recommend giving it a listen if you haven’t heard it before.

On a different note, I returned to the scene of the Primrose’s last night to see if they would all be open, and unfortunately they were not. I think that I misidentified the type of Primrose which they were, and even more unfortunately I hated that flower for absolutely no reason. Sorry man.

Sad Primroses

You can kinda see in the photo above them all closed up for the night.

That’s all I have for now, a new blog tomorrow!
