Cat and Mouse

The little mouse zipped past the table leg in a scurry, he turned his little mouse head around to see a massive creature barreling toward him.

He turned a corner into the hallway, and then felt himself suddenly stop. He slowly turned his head to see a giant paw holding his tail to the ground, and attached to that giant paw, was a regular sized cat.

The cat leaned over to take a bite of the mouse, who in a last effort squeaked out: “Please don’t eat me!”

Although you’d never expect it, the cat replied, “Why not?”

The mouse thought for a moment, “I don’t want to die.”

“I’m hungry,” said the cat.

“Can’t you eat something else?”

The cat thought for a moment, “Like what?”

The mouse peaked out a nearby window, noticing cows grazing outside, “Grass?”

The cat thought again, “Well, I suppose I could eat grass, but I’d just be killing something else in that case.”

“But the grass feels no pain, it doesn’t think, heck, it won’t even realize it died.”

The cat knew his response this time, “Neither will you, once you’re dead at least, you’d be the exact same as the grass,” and he continued, “and if everyone only ate grass, there would be none left, and then the next thing everyone would eat would be mice, and if there was no more mice, everyone would probably start to eat cats.”

The cat rambled on about his whole rant about the circle of life, so the mouse just ran away.

He decided the next time he caught one he’d just eat it.
